We went to the Holt, having won a meal there through the Our Local Expert reader prize. We were in the competition having recommended a local painter we use and trust, Alan Chanter.

The meal at the Holt was very nice indeed – thank you very much we had a lovely time!

The Holt is a 'wooden' pub, so we expected noisy but upstairs wasn't. Pleasantly rustic. We were welcomed exceptionally well and everyone was friendly and willing to chat. The menu was well chosen. Good range of choice, tasty, well presented and good portions. Service was attentive and timely. The coffee too was excellent as were the beers. I'm not surprised they have a full order book. I have to compliment the chef, not only for the quality of the cooking but also because I really enjoy being surprised by a contrast of sweet and savoury flavours. It's on our agenda for another visit.

Extremely good - especially the puddings!
