Just off the Topsham Road, this wonderful small pub with authentic atmosphere, serving quality, interesting food from a manageable menu with regularly changing specials. Good local beers and wide selection of wines. Relaxed but often busy, so get there early or book a table in dining room in advance.

What a blinding place, I thoroughly recommend the Hourglass! A slightly older clientele to many Exeter pubs creates a nice chilled atmosphere.

The hourglass is a pub and restaurant with a lot of charm and a cosy feel. The restaurant is located partially at the back of the pub area, and also downstairs.
We sat upstairs in a pleasant room with lots of quirky photos of famous people. The waitress brought us bread, olive oil, cracked pepper and seasalt whilst we chose what to order, along with a couple of tasty local ales. For starters we ordered crab compote and beetroot salad which were both delicious. The beetroot salad had feta cheese and a nice honey tasting dressing which was quite rich and went well with the red wine we ordered (a great Aussie Shiraz called Rolling Hill).
For mains we already knew we wanted their steak and chips as it is actually one of our favourites. The steak is always immaculately cooked and very high quality meat. It came with a rocket salad, crunchy homemade small chips and also with a very tasty cooked tomato with herbs. We even went all out and bought a pud each – the gyspy tart (a butterscotch tart yum) and very creamy but light pear trifle. A jolly nice meal in a very friendly and unique pub – extremely nice! A great evening.
