Local Restaurant Reviews in the National Press

What do the National Press think of our featured restaurants?

You aren't the only people who think that the restaurants featured here are wonderful.  Some of them have graced the National Press.

to see what the Daily Telegraph thought of the Holt, one of our featured Dining Pubs in East Devon. "Gastro pub, bar or brewery tap? Frankly, when food and drink are this good who gives a damn?"

The Telegraph obviously really like the Holt - returning there to find which wines are best suited for smoked foods - home-smoked foods being a speciality at the Holt.

Still in Honiton, The Sunday Times tell us that "The Railway used to be the sort of rundown pub that you often find near stations. Not any more. Restored and turned into a vibrant restaurant, it delivers great food at excellent value."

The Riverford Field Kitchen is so well thought of that it won the Observer Food Monthly Ethical Restaurant Award (Mar 2009). Note that readers of Our Local Expert qualify for a free guided farm tour if you mention Our Local Expert when reserving your lunch at the Riverford Field Kitchen. [Planning permission means that visitors must book in advance, and must accompany their meal with a farm tour, walk, or other activity.]

The Times have been similarly impressed by the Riverford Field Kitchen.  Giles Coren was delighted particularly with the desserts and of course the vegetables, stating that the field kitchen is 'stunning value'.

Okay, so it's not a restaurant (it's more!), but The Independent listed Topsham’s Darts Farm as one of the 50 best food shops in Britain, stocking “everything you could want for a day’s retail therapy, rural-style”.   See Farm Shops, just before Harrods Food Hall, by following this link.

And staying on the subject of the region's best food shops, Bon Goût Delicatessen on Magdalen Road, Exeter features in The Times ‘Top 100 Delicatessens in the Country.’
